VISUAL GUIDE 3 / 3

Before testing, trace the next step

  1. Name the question

What finding or family history makes testing relevant, and who is interpreting it?

  2. Ask what could change

Would a positive, negative or uncertain result alter care, referral or monitoring?

  3. Ask about the process

Discuss consent, privacy, costs, limitations and whether reanalysis may be useful later.

  4. Keep ordinary care moving

Correction and appropriate follow-up should not disappear while a result is being considered.

A discussion pathway rather than a test-ordering checklist. An uncertain result needs clinical interpretation; it does not automatically explain a child’s condition or rule another one out.Sources: [1] [3] · Open or save this visual ↗
