VISUAL GUIDE 1 / 3

Take the symptom seriously and support the child

THE VISION CONCERN

  1. Describe

What changed, when and during which task?

  2. Assess urgency

Concerning sudden symptoms need prompt care.

  3. Arrange assessment

Use the appropriate eye-care or medical route.

THE CHILD’S EXPERIENCE

  1. Listen

Use calm questions and the child’s own words.

  2. Support

Identify the stressful task and a trusted adult.

  3. Seek help when needed

Discuss persistent interference with the child’s healthcare professional.

Review both next steps.

Stress does not rule out an eye problem. An eye assessment does not remove the need for emotional support.

Conceptual response map, not a diagnostic tool or a claim that anxiety caused the visual symptom. Sources: [1] [2] ·
