VISUAL GUIDE 3 / 3

A useful statistic keeps its label attached

Before using a number, identify:
OUTCOME
Event rate, diopters, millimeters, symptoms or another endpoint?
COMPARISON
Which treatment and which comparator?
PEOPLE
Who was studied, and how many?
TIME
Over what actual follow-up?
UNCERTAINTY
Which interval, variation or limitation was reported?

Keep event denominators consistent. Do not turn a mean change into an event count.

A reading aid based on risk-communication principles. No invented probabilities or treatment results are used. Sources: [1] ·
