1What is Myopia?
Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, is a refractive error of the eye where distant objects appear blurry while close objects can be seen clearly.
Key Point: Myopia occurs when the eyeball grows too long from front to back, or when the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye) is too curved.
When light enters a myopic eye, it focuses in front of the retina instead of directly on it. This causes distant images to appear blurry, while close-up vision remains clear.
Common Signs of Myopia:
- Squinting to see distant objects
- Sitting close to the TV or front of the classroom
- Headaches from eye strain
- Difficulty seeing the whiteboard at school
